Nyxie the pug likes them!!!
(Written Before Run)

Today is a day of firsts. A lot of firsts! So many firsts I am about to first myself in the first whilst first firsts on my first first. (That sounds bad). Anyways- over the last 24 hours I have spent a few hundred bucks on running gear! If I am not going to be able to run marathons for a few months, I atleast want to LOOK like I can. Nah, I kid. Hopefully this stuff helps me… so what did I buy!?!?!

Today I went out and bought Skins. For those of you who don’t know what they Skins are, they are compression tights. They are designed to give your legs support and assist in muscle recovery and about a million other things. I already had two pairs of compression tights, which I bought a few months back from KMART. Why? Because they were SUPER CHEAP! Problem is- they are cheap and stupid. Despite washing them thoroughly, they regularly smell. They have seams right where men have man bits. This means the wonderful world of chafage gets a little more up close and personal. I am sure the talcum powder bottle I have screams each time I come back from the gym! Anyhoo, the cheap tights were 20$ or something and provided a little bit of help.

CAREFUL- MY NIPPLES MAY TAKE YOUR EYES OUT
These new A400 Skins were $160. As I have said before, I am not a corporate spokesperson. I don’t make money from this. All money donated goes to charity. So for a student who is currently finishing his PhD thesis and is not working much… $160 is a lot of money. I mean that’s the price of a fairly decent pair of running shoes. So I am curious if they are going to help. If they do, you know what I will ask for on Christmas. A NEW FISHING ROD! Or maybe another pair of Skins.

I also bought some running shirts. The fancy ones made of weird material that draws the sweat away and keeps you cool. They also appear to show the world my nipples. So anyone who is about to go to the gym- expect to see some nips! Also with the shirt gentle rubbing against my body- POINTY!

I also bought some protein shake powder stuff. $25 for 12 servings. I am still getting a bit sore after my runs so I thought I’d try do some protein after each run for the next week or two and see how I go. Do any of you use protein supplements etc? Let me know if they work and what brands are best?!? So all in all that’s like 250$ of running gear! OUCH! But, if they work, then they should last the whole year and I guess it’ll be worth it.

But you know what the most exciting thing about today is? I finally have some time today. I normally go to the gym and have to leave an hour or so later. But today, I could run for 2.5 hours if I want. I won’t though! But it’s nice not to feel rushed!

So how did everything go? Lets find out

(POST RUN)

Day: 15
Time: 78.5 Minutes
Distance: 11.2 KM
Calories: 1353

WOW! I just ran 11.2 Kilometers. That’s 1.2km more than my previous maximum. Now I feel like I am a scientific anomaly. Most people, I think with no sports science knowledge at all, generally start of pretty fast but fade throughout the run and finish a tad slower. I on the other hand am the complete reverse. I normally run 5-15-5-15-5-15. Ie. 5 minutes walking followed by 15 minutes of running. I generally find that my last 15 minutes is my quickest. Up around the 9.5-10km/h range. Today I also did something different. I ran for 60 minutes(did 8.5 km) and then went to the gym entrance, bought a protein revival, drank it outside, then walked back and jumped on the treadmill again for 18 minutes or so. So from what I can tell, I am very slowly getting quicker (ie- 2 weeks ago I averaged 7.5 km/h). But I am getting much fitter and able to run for a lot longer.

As for the new gym equipment? The shirt is fine. It is nothing neither here or there. It really shows my nipples and probably breaths a fraction more. But the 160$ skins? Well they are pretty awesome. It was more smaller things. My legs felt a bit stronger during the run. But the real difference is in my muscle pain. Normally during my run, my muscles stiffen up when I walk my 5 minute segments. Today, didn’t happen as much. Also my legs felt really good after the run. Definitely not as sore. The question
is, was it the tights or the protein? Either way- I feel pretty good.
ALSO- I JUST RAN MY FIRST 100KM!! YAHOO

So how does one celebrate?

I am off to walk my dog 2 kilometers!
