I literally looked like this on the machine!
Day: 31
Time: 78 Minutes
Distance: 11.3 KM
Calories: 1338

I am A PHOENIX! I ROSE FROM THE ASHES LIKE A CRAZY MAN POSSESSED WITH FINDING HIS NON-EXISTENT DOG(I just happened to walk past a crazy man looking for a non-existent dog). TODAY I RAN THE SECONDS FASTEST I HAVE EVER RUN. I RAN LIKE A GERMAN TO A BEER DRINKING CONTEST. LIKE A GERMAN TO A SAUSAGE EATING CONSTEST AND LIKE A FRENCHMAN FROM A GERMAN…. (WW2 joke anyone). So I BOW DOWN BEFORE YOU MULTIPLE REST DAYS- I AM YOUR BIATCH AND I WILL SUCK ON YOUR NIPPLES IN SUPPLICATION (A little Ancient Irish practice- read about it here)

GOOD ON YA LEGS!!
I was curious how I was going to go after 3 long days off. As I walked up to the gym, my legs felt great! They weren’t tired like they have been before, nor was their any sign of chafed skin. So I decided to set myself a challenge.

A week or two ago a guy by the name of @blath tweeted (go to my twitter here) that to qualify for the Young US ARMY (or something) I would need to run 2 miles(3.22 KM) in 16:57. So I have decided randomly that because my goal of a marathon is still 8 months away, this could be a nice goal for the next week or two.

On I bounded to the machine. I worked out I’d need to run at about 11.3 km/h to make it… and off I went!

5 minutes in and I was going well, I thought I had a chance but the next few minutes slowly demonstrated to me that I didn’t. By around 10 minutes I had to pause the machine for 30 seconds to catch my breathe and then restart it at a measily 6km/h(my standard walking pace when on a machine and taking a 2-5 minute walk break)

By the time 16:57 clocked up I had gone about 2.7km. This is around the 9km/h mark.

Why did I fail? Probably two reasons. Firstly, I think trying to do it after 3 days off, my body probably wasn’t ready for it yet. Also, to be honest, I don’t run a lot at speeds over say 10.5km/h and even this small nudge up knocked me down.

But over the next week or two- on every run I am going to try and become Youth Army qualified! So I will keep you informed if I make it.

What this attempt did provide me was a good platform to get a really quick run in. By the time I hit 65 minutes, which is the most the machine will allow you to plug in, I had hit 9.6km. This is good for two reasons. Firstly, it is the quickest I have run in 65 minutes. It also meant that after 65 minutes I had already hit my goal for the run and this is the first time that has ever happened! So I reset the machine and lazily ran for another 13 minutes and added on another 1.7km.

So did the 3 day rest help?!!? Yes! I must admit though today I had to stop running and pause the machine probably 2/3 times, simply as I got a few massive stiches and needed to get rid of them. But overall the run felt better and I feel pretty good afterwards. So maybe I need to start thinking about taking another day off a week, but let’s see how this goes!

Finally, what the f*ck is the cause of a stich and how do you get rid of one without stopping your run?!?!
