So the last few days I have gone to the gym only to be confronted by the Biggest Loser trainer Michelle Bridges(I had to google her name as I completely forgot) training in the gym. She is one of the trainers who yell at all the fat people on the tv show and I have to admit... I thoroughly dislike her! Physically, she is a sight to see! She is taller than I thought and literally looks like she has about 1% body fat and the rest is lean, spray tanned muscle. She has the sort of body I would like to have... and I am a man! Don't believe me- check her out (http://www.confidentfuture.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/michelle-bridges.jpg)
Now, you are asking yourself? Yes, she is a leviathan of sinew, but why do you dislike her Hugh? The answer is simple.
Turn on the Biggest Loser at any point during the show and you are likely to see something like this happening.

Fat Contestant #3: I can't run any more! I can't do it!(Tears streaming down his/her face)
Michelle: Come on, Fat Contestant #3, you don't have to be like this any more. You can overcome your obesity and finally be happy!!!

Fat Contestant #3: (Sobs)
Michelle: All your life you have been unhappy because you are overweight. We are doing something about this. Yes you are massively fat and I like standing next to you because it makes the audience realise how skinny I am. But we can do this!!!
Fat Contestant #3: So (sniff), I'll finally be happy?
Michelle: Yes!

F*CK YOU MICHELLE! Every time I turn on that damn show, you and the other ditty little trainers are making some poor starved fat person cry and you tell them how they are so upset with their lives and losing weight will make it all better. You know what- it won't. Happiness is not dependent on how much you weigh. Yes, it can be a burden on you. Yes, it is embarrassing and can make you emotional. But so can having a lazy eye, too much hair on the upper lip, crooked teeth and much more.

The reason it gets me so annoyed is that they don't realise that there is another world out there. Michelle(according to wikipedia) became a fitness instructor at like 18. So her only job, each day, was to go to the gym and work out so she looked great and then yell at the unfit to DO FIVE MORE REPS. COME ON!!! ONE- TWO-THREE....(Sidenote: Why do trainers always YELL?)

Today it got me angry. Why? Because I was on the treadmill and I was focusing on the time- at 40 minutes I needed to leave. I have a million things to do in order to get a draft of my PhD ready. I have to set up several things for a course I am lecturing in a few weeks. I have to deal with the ant problem in my house. In other words, I have a life. If I could spend 4 hours of every day in a gym- I would. But today, after 40 minutes(and some chafing due to some crappy tights I wear) I had to leave and come home to reality. I am praying after my PhD is in and when I am a lot fitter than I am today, I can make up the kilometers I should have run this evening .

The reason Michelle and the Biggest Loser annoys me is that it's not real. Anyone can lose weight when exercising all day, every day. But that's not life! Life is jobs, due dates, stress levels rising. Too much caffeine and not enough fruit. The show should promote healthy and REALISTIC living. No doubt that's why many of the contestants put the weight back on. Check out this list from the American show and look at how many of them are now 50 pounds(23 kilograms heavier) http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/40423712/ns/today-entertainment/t/biggest-loser-where-are-they-now/#.TsOIucPhdGW

Yes, it may be muscle but unlikely that you're going to put that much on. If I lost 23 kilograms I would a skinny little fella!I know this blog is long but one final story from the Biggest Loser. I happened to watch an episode where the trainers went and had a dinner with the Fat Contestants before they start getting fit. This blonde trainer(not Michelle), went to the pub and they ordered some Garlic Bread to start, a Chicken Parmigana, and a beer! The blonde trainer was disgusted. Watch this and be amazed!

What I see in that clip is not just a family with eating issues but a trainer as well. One devoid of reality to the point that eating a bloody Chicken Parmigana made her cry. Tiffiny (I'm sorry and I know it's petty but that's such a bogan spelling), that my friend is a normal meal FOR MANY, MANY PEOPLE! The trainers(AND I AM NOT SAYING ALL GYM TRAINERS) are what people SHOULDN'T TURN INTO.

So, as I walked past Michelle. I got angry. My weight is something that upsets me a little bit. But I have an amazing life! I am blessed every day and you know what, I would rather be overweight, than have something like, ummmm, cancer. (DONATE MONEY HERE).

My point? To all those folks out their who live a normal life, eat healthy and manage to stay fit but are not obsessed with it, you are the real idols of the big folks like me. Much respect and I hope I can be like you one day!
